Good design doesn't stop where the eye stops. The materials behind our hallways, meeting rooms, and shared spaces carry the same level of thought as everything else. Here's what you'll find when you look a little closer.

What you can find throughout the hotel:
Recycled flooring
Part of the flooring in our social space is made from recycled plastics, some of which are retrieved from our rivers by our charity partner Clear Rivers. They are sorted and chipped and combined with a water-based binder all by The Good Floor, a Rotterdam-based startup. In 2030, The Good Floor estimates to have given 1,000,000 kg of plastic from rivers a new life through their flooring solution.

Riverstone flooring
Made from smooth, naturally weathered stones, riverstone flooring requires minimal processing, reducing the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing. Sourced responsibly, it supports circular design principles by promoting durability, reusability, and minimal waste.

Recycled leather panels
Our sustainable panel covering from Buxkin comprises a top layer of recycled leather combined with natural rubber, bonded to a jute backing layer. Produced to the OEKO-TEX® leather standard, meaning it contains no harmful chemicals. The leather can be recycled again at the end of its life.
To be found in: The Library, The U Bar

Recycled tabletops
Less than 1% of textile waste is currently recycled. This is why our partner Kvadrat engineered an innovative material made from upcycled textiles — all achieved without using any water, chemicals or dyes during the production process. At the end of life, the tabletops are fully recyclable, making it a durable material designed for circularity.

Preloved furniture
We've opted for second-hand furniture because it's a sustainable choice that aligns with our commitment to the environment. By giving quality items with history a second life, we reduce waste and bring unique charm and character to our spaces.
To be found in: Throughout the hotel

From floor to ceiling, from your room to the hallway, every material at The Usual is there for a reason. We hope you'll take a moment to notice — and feel good about where you're staying.
